As a pharmacist, scientist and professor, Dr Zheng has accumulated experiences and expertise through his educations and appointments at academia, industry, and regulatory agent. He is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS), where he has been teaching and coordinating pharmaceutics, regulatory sciences, botanical medicines and related curriculum since 2004. He is also an adjunct faculty at Northeastern University Center for Drug Discovery. Zheng Group has been interested about the design and evaluation of Complex Drug Products, such as botanicals, peptides and proteins from the nature. Interdisciplinary methodologies and translational strategies are used to elucidate mechanisms of actions, evaluate pharmaceutical quality, and access therapeutic benefits and risks. These efforts can empower patient-centered product design, enhance drug development efficiency, and enable regulatory decisions. Our recent research projects focus on evaluating the risks and benefits of cannabis products, and investigating the endocannabinoid systems (ECS) of blood brain barrier (BBB).
Dr Zheng has been an active member and leader of American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and other scientific organizations and professional communities. He was elected to Chair the AAPS Northeast Regional Meeting (2010), AACP Graduate Education Special Interest Group (2016), AACP Annual Meeting Programming Committee (2018), and other tasks. He is the founding adviser of the AAPS Student Chapter in Albany, which won the worldwide award of the Student Chapter of the Year twice in 2016 and 2017, thanks to ACPHS’ outstanding student leaders.
Dr Zheng obtained Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) from Shanghai Medical University School of Pharmacy, MS of Chemistry from University at Albany (SUNY), and PhD of Pharmaceutical Science from University of Connecticut. He started his career as a junior faculty at Shanghai Medical University, where he joined a team that became a biotech startup, now part of Fosun Pharma. Then he worked for Bristol Myers Squib (BMS) China Headquarters, before his graduate educations in the US. He also did research as a visiting scientist at Mie University, University of California at San Diego, University of Houston, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Northeastern University, and the US FDA.
